Shine A Light – Scorsese and The Rolling Stones
Feb 28th
Guess what? April 4 – the new Scorsese movie – "Shine A Light" is being released and it’s all about The Rolling Stones.
After producing "No direction home" (2005) a great bio of Bob Dylan, Scorsese now takes on the challenge to direct the bio movie of the grandpas of Rock. Just imagine a Rolling Stones concert filmed by one of the most talented directors and producers.
Scorsese has made another fabulous concert movie using all modern techniques available. Scorsese had the Stones rehearsing their stage show for some days so he was able to choreograph his cameras. Shot with 16 cameras he is able to be always on the right image to the music. But yet it is not senselessly hectic like a bad music clip but allows you instead to watch the musicians and get a feeling for them. The Stones are at their best, delivering one hit after the other. There are some surprises like a duet by Mick Jagger and Jack White III. Buddy Guy and Christina Aguilera also blend in perfectly with the rhythm of the Stones. In between there are some short clips of old Stones interviews which are quite funny and also some Behind-the-Scenes-Footage.
You can get more details on the "Shine A Light" website or just see the trailer below:
Spirit on the Water
Jan 3rd
Dedicated to the one I love and to all others that are in love…..
Spirit on the Water
Words and Music by Bob Dylan
“Modern Times” – 2006
Spirit on the water
Darkness on the face of the deep
I keep thinking about you baby
I can’t hardly sleep
I’m traveling by land
Traveling through the dawn of day
You’re always on my mind
I can’t stay away
I’d forgotten about you
Then you turned up again
I always knew
That we were meant to be more than friends
When you are near
It’s just as plain as it can be
I’m wild about you, gal
You ought to be a fool about me
Can’t explain
The sources of this hidden pain
You burned your way into my heart
You got the key to my brain
I’ve been trampling through mud
Praying to the powers above
I’m sweating blood
You got a face that begs for love
Life without you
Doesn’t mean a thing to me
If I can’t have you,
I’ll throw my love into the deep blue sea
Sometimes I wonder
Why you can’t treat me right
You do good all day
Then you do wrong all night
When you’re with me
I’m a thousand times happier than I could ever say
What does it matter
What price I pay
They brag about your sugar
Brag about it all over town
Put some sugar in my bowl
I feel like laying down
I’m pale as a ghost
Holding a blossom on a stem
You ever seen a ghost? No
But you have heard of them
I see you there
I’m blinded by the colors I see
I take good care
Of what belongs to me
I hear your name
Ringing up and down the line
I’m saying it plain
These ties are strong enough to bind
Your sweet voice
Calls out from some old familiar shrine
I got no choice
Can’t believe these things would ever fade from your mind
I could live forever
With you perfectly
You don’t ever
Have to make a fuss over me
From East to West
Ever since the world began
I only mean it for the best
I want to be with you any way I can
I been in a brawl
Now I’m feeling the wall
I’m going away baby
I won’t be back ‘til fall
High on the hill
You can carry all my thoughts with you
You’ve numbed my will
This love could tear me in two
I wanna be with you in paradise
And it seems so unfair
I can’t go back to paradise no more
I killed a man back there
You think I’m over the hill
You think I’m past my prime
Let me see what you got
We can have a whoppin’ good time

My letter to Bob Dylan
Jan 3rd
January 3rd, Bucharest, Romania
Bob,
My story is really simple – I am a 26y old guy from
My father is 1 year younger than you, born on January 3rd 1942 and he is a huge fan of yours. Unfortunately he is no longer a living fan of yours. He passed away in September 1994. My father’s life was all about mathematics, music and freedom. He is one of those parents who’s lifetime achievements are extremely hard to follow by his children. Thanks to him, I learned even since my early years, to love people like you, Mick Jagger, Pete Townshend, John Lennon, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash and many more. I also learned that my nickname’s godfather is you, Mr. Bob Dylan. He loved you so much that when he heard the news that he is going to be the father of a baby boy, he could not resist calling him Bob. Communism and the era Romania was going through in 1981 when I was born, prevented my parents to give me a non Romanian name – and this is why Bob is just a nickname – a nickname that I’ve been carrying around for 26 years and shared with all my friends, loved ones, school colleagues and work mates. Dad spoke dearly of you and he was very familiar with your work, just as if you were his bigger brother. He knew all you were up to and he sang me your best works.
2007 passed by and one was one of my best years. The only regret that I have about last year was that I could not make it as a spectator at your series of concerts you held throughout
I hope I’ll get to give you a big hug in this lifetime, and if not, I am sure we’ll get the chance in the next one or so. Perhaps I will be able to join your Never Ending Tour in the States or maybe there are chances you will repeat the European tour. Anyway – I wanted to wish you a fabulous 2008, and may you be surrounded only by people that love you and that you love. I’m guessing it’s not easy at all to be as active as you still are and to carry the responsibility of transmitting the message of the generations whose voice you still are.
As I’m working in the online industry, it would be my pleasure and honor to handle an official BOB DYLAN Europe website, if you and the people you work with think it’s appropriate.
My Dad and I wish you all the best.
Happy birthday Dad!
Bob.
