I am a Mac

product-15in I am a Mac. I just go my MacBook Pro 5 hours ago and I’ve been playing with it since, trying to figure out how Steve’s wonder works. This is just a test post using Qumana, a Mac replacement for Windows Live Writer.

First questions:

  • how do I minimize all apps?
  • what is a common replacement for “right click” when you try to copy the url of an image, etc ?
  • what about “Home”, “End”, “Page Down”, “Page Up”, “Del” ?
  • why have I waited so long to go the Mac way ? :)
  • what is the most efficient way to run Windows on a Mac (Parallels, Bootcamp, VMware – heard about these but have no clue how they work and what are the differences between them) ? …for those apps that you are not ready to give up and that don’t have a Mac version already.

I’ll post more the following days, but please leave a comment if you can help with the above; don’t go LOL on me …I am a newbie! :P

Also, stay tuned on Webmyc for a photo story series with Romanian fortified churches from Transylvania. Just have to find time to put everything from last week together.

MacBook Pro factory refurbished

macbookpro_outlet_iconI am considering buying a factory  refurbished MacBook Pro from Apple store. The deals are pretty good and from what they advertise seems that you get a pretty close to new product – all defective spare parts are replaced, the product is cleansed both inside and outside and they ship it with the latest Mac-OS – Leopard and with all the cables, manuals, etc.

Considering the prices in Romania, a refurbished notebook with a slightly slower CPU and smaller HDD costs less than half the price! What do you think? Have you had any experience with any Apple factory refurbished products?

Upgrades for MacBook and MacBook Pro

macbookpro-overview-hero Apple released today the upgraded versions of MacBook and MacBook Pro. Besides the natural update to OS Leopard, there some hardware updates that definitely place the MacBook’s in the best performance notebook pool.

MacBook now comes with: Latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors up to 2.4GHz, 2GB of memory standard on 2.4GHz models, Larger hard drives across the entire line, up to 250GB; while MacBook Pro delivers: Latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors up to 2.6GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processing with up to 512MB of video memory and the expected Multi-Touch trackpad that you can already find on MacBook Air.

I did not see any modifications in the form factor/casis but this is quite normal as the MacBooks where already top of the line in build and aesthetics.

I am trying to get myself a refurbished MacBook Pro from the US. Do you have any experience getting those to Europe? The prices are unjustifiable much higher in EU, not to speak of Romanian prices.
