Off to the mountains

I can no longer stand the heat in Bucharest and decided to go for a breath of fresh air. I will be gone next week – in the mountains, Rodnei mountains. It’s been 11 years since my last visit there – I hope Ioji, the self-taught bodybuilder mountain rescuer is still there so I can have a drink with him and remember the old times.
600km away from Bucharest, in northern Romania – probably we will also reach Maramures – famous for the incredible scenery and wooden churches.
I scheduled some posts for Tuesday and Wednesday. See ya soon.

HTTPool enters Romanian market as a full service online advertising network, following the market trends by bringing a combined approach to the Online Industry – full service agency & online advertising network. You can read the full story on Hotnews and a more detailed analysis on Doru Panaitescu’s blog. I met HTTPool’s CEO, Timotej, in Warsaw at the InternetCEE conference last november and he is a fun guy with a sound business focus and clear regional markets understanding. I was impressed that such a young guy can lead such a big operation, but I guess this is the way in the Online Industry. It’s funny that neither of the sources that bring us the news mention anything about Timotej.

Timotej Gala is responsible for media-buying and Internet advertising operations in five CEE markets. Since 2003, when he joined the company, he has successfully positioned Httpool as the market leader in online marketing in South-East Europe. Furthermore, he actively promotes Internet marketing in the region presenting the latest trends and opportunities of online marketing through media and marketing events.
The other news comes from Bobby Voicu – romanian blogger & online evangelist – recently appointed Yahoo Romania Community Manager. Bobby had a very important guest on his online RadioLynx show – Darren Patterson, Yahoo Business Development Director for Emerging Markets, who announced Yahoo’s strategy for 2008&2009 in Romania. Apparently www.yahoo.ro will be online with localized content this fall (august-september). You can see the full story on ZF.
Also, Yahoo! Messenger, no1 social “network” in Romania (if you ask me), will have a localized (translated) version.
This will definitely be a fun year for the Online Industry in Romania

May 1st – Roadtrip!

I will be AFK (away from keyboard) most of this week as Dana and myself are taking a country road trip with Hawkeye 
. We plan to reach some of the major fortified churches from Transylvania, take some nice pictures and relax, relax, relax.
I hope to have the mood to document every old village we photograph and maybe show you on our return, a different kind of Romania.
My wife and I hooked up on May 1st 1999 and since then we promised to ourselves to do something special every year, on May 1st. And we did. Each year, we take a couple of days off only for ourselves and do something we haven’t done before. This year it’s time for a photo-story of the old Transylvanian fortified churches .

Metallica comes to Bucharest afterall

Although we already bought tickets for Metallica concert in Prague, Metalhead comes with some great unofficial but pretty certain news – Metallica will perform in Bucharest on 26 July 2008, probably at Romexpo. This makes a lot of sense, as they are performing one day before in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Seems that Bucharest is the place to be in 2008 if you are a fan of live concerts – we will host this summer performances of: Kylie Minogue, Lenny Kravitz, Manowar, Nelly Furtado, Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Kaiser Chiefs and even a rumor that Madonna will perform in Constanta in late May…….wow that’s a lot of …ahhmmm …money!
Playboy Party

I am on my way to the Playboy Annual Party, and as a premiere, I am taking my wife with me It’s going to be fun. I’ll try to "sneak" my camera in and maybe take some nice shots of local playmates.
Last year, Playboy Romania was operated by Publimedia International as a publisher. Unfortunately this is no longer the case, as Attica Media took over the publishing rights.
I am not sure how the new management planned this party but they already did a huge PR mistake by not inviting as a guest one of the professional photographers that was responsible for the most admired and memorable photo shootings for the same magazine, during the last 6 years. I hope at least the playmates will be there!

Audi A4 for Romanian top 10 bloggers

Audi + Cohn & Jansen have silently started an online campaign provoking 10 top bloggers from Romania to test drive the new Audi A4. I am happy to see that advertisers put their trust and money in online. It’s a big step and probably more will follow. Here are the lucky bloggers:

New website for Orange Romania

Orange Romania have silently relaunched their website today. I am guessing they are debugging and making sure everything works before the official press release as I am not able to find any official information about their face lifted website.
WebShop and WebCare applications have maintained the old look & feel and probably they will get revamped in phase 2.
I personally find the content very crowded and I’ve also noticed some bad CSS usage but the improvements are clearly noticeable and they brush some of the dust from that old website.
